While there are advantages and disadvantages to in person and distance learning in general, here is a list of the top 10 reasons why to take an anger management class online:
1. Online anger management classes provided by credible providers are a convenient and effective way to learn skills to improve the way one behaves when angry.
2. Classes are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
3. Online anger management classes offer a layer of anonymity that in person classes can not
4. Classes are completely self-paced. One can work on as little or as much as they like every time they log in/out
5. Online classes can be taken from any location in the world with a computer and internet access.

7. Most quality online programs actually require the participant to grasp the concepts through comprehensive quizzes while live programs a participant can just sit and day dream
8. Content is identical to the material covered in a live program
9. Fulfilling a court or legal requirement or simply for personal growth, online classes allow the participant more time with family or work obligations because the classes can be taken anytime

A guide to online anger management classes
Anger management classes are an excellent way to increase skills to improve interpersonal relationships. While there has been a common misconception that anger management is punitive, this notion is far from the truth. These classes are aimed at teaching participants skills in a variety of areas, which include improving communication, empathy, judgment and impulse control, stress management, and much more.
Traditional in person classes have been the standard accepted format because there were no other methods of delivery available until the last few years. With the great advances in technology, quality anger management programs, such as the one offered by the AJ Novick Group, Inc. can now be taken online. These online anger management classes use the same exact curriculum used in their counterpart live programs but simply delivered in an online classroom.
These new online programs are an excellent way to to gain skills without having to lose time away from work or family commitments. They are also incredibly convenient and private. While there are certainly advantages and disadvantages to either format, taking an online anger management class may be a wise alternative, particularly if one has been procrastinating getting help. Online classes, such as Anger Class Online can be started immediately and the client has 24/7 access to the program. Participants can expect a world class experience with a brand and company they can trust.

Anger Management, A relationship Saver?
Unlike marriage counseling, anger management is aimed at teaching participants how to change their thinking and behavior in some very specific areas. It is structured like a class and most participants will receive a workbook to practice homework assignments in between the sessions. Couples can often take classes together or one partner can take them separately.
Participants will learn how to communicate more effectively with each other, better manage stress and show more empathy. Classes typically also teach skills in forgiveness, improving judgment and impulse control and staying calm in difficult situations.
Most anger management classes can be taken in a group format, one on one coaching or through an online anger management class. Why let your anger ruin or even destroy a relationship that is meaningful to you? Starting an anger management class is a great first step to making the change you need.

Superior Court Approves Anger Class Online® for use
Dr. Novick states, "while our online anger management program has seen tremendous acceptance nationally, we are always pleased when the judicial system embraces the use of alternative methods of providing anger management education". He continues, "the approval is not surprising and is a nice addition to the many other court approvals we've been granted over the years". While there has been some skepticism on the acceptance of online anger management classes, Anger Class Online® continues to prove that a high quality distance learning program can be accepted as a viable option to a traditional program. Distance learning education is relatively new, but research shows that it can rival and even out perform the traditional classroom setting.

Online Anger Management Classes: Fact vs. Fiction
The AJ Novick Group is one of the leading providers of anger management in the country. They are also the co-founder of Century Anger Management, which is arguably the second largest anger management certification training provider in the nation. The AJ Novick Group launched Anger Class Online in 2006 to meet the demand for clients who are unable to attend traditional classes due to a disability, inflexible work schedule, or other life commitments that prevent the participation in a live program. The classes were also designed to help consumers find a quality program in areas throughout the United States that may have limited access to anger management services.
Distance learning education is somewhat new. Many people do not fully understand it, and it will likely take some time for all judges, legal personnel, probation departments, HR managers, and the consuming public to grasp how important this new learning environment can be to increasing skills in a particular discipline, such as anger management. The New York Times recently published an article explaining how a recent study showed that distance learning has actually exceeded classroom learning. This is no surprise, as major universities, such as UCLA, Stanford and Harvard all offer distance learning courses.
While we can not speak for every online anger management class available on the Internet, I would like to provide a frequently asked questions (FAQ) to explain some of the important points to note regarding our world class online anger management classes available through Anger Class Online™
1. How long does it take to complete your program online?
Answer: The shortest class we offer is an 8 hour course. It can not be completed in less than 8 hours no matter what. The pages are timed for the average reading speed of 150 word per minute. Our longest standard class is 26 hours. It will also take 26 hours to complete. It can not be completed any faster.
2. Can your office be contacted and is it possible to visit in person?
Answer: Of course. We offer both live and online classes. Our live anger management programs are court approved and offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week at 6pm. Our corporate office is located at 333 Third Street, Suite 4, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Our office number is (949) 715-2694
3. What is the cost of your online program vs. your live program.
Answer: The shortest lengh class we provide is $195.00 and available through Anger Class Online. We believe this is a fair and reasonable fee for the type and quality program we offer. Our live classes are $35 per class session and we recommend 8-10 sessions. We have seen classes offered online for very little money and they seem too good to be true. The reality is, they probably are to good to be true. Consumers should carefully scrutinize these programs.
4. Does your office have regular office hours and customer service?
Answer: We have 1 full time office manager, 3 contract employees, with a total staff of 5. Either our office manager or Dr. Novick can be reached anytime M-F 9am-6pm each day and all calls that are not answered personally are usually returned within a few hours.
5. Are your online Classes court approved?
Answer: There is a big difference between court acceptance and court approval. Please read our website for more information using the link above. In short, our online anger management classes have been accepted by almost every state in the U.S. This is impart due to our curriculum being provided to courts, judges and probation officers when they request it as well as our ability to show a participants class participation through our online log. Approvals are made on a case by case basis and most state court judges have allowed our participants to take our online anger management classes when the request has been made.
7. Who utilizes your online anger management classes?
Answer: Our courses are commonly used and accepted by courts, probation departments, HR managers, EAP providers, and for personal growth. All of our contact information is available on our website and certificate of completion. Judges, attorneys and other legal officals are well aware of who we are, and the quality programs we offer.
8. Can your program be trusted?
Answer: Customer loyalty and trust is most important to us. Our parent company, AJ Novick Group, Inc is a professional corporation and has been in operation since 2003 and our online courses have been available since 2006. All of our programs are fully guaranteed. While it is rare when our programs are not accepted, in the event that there is an issue, we offer a full refund on the class. Our programs have numerous continuing education approvals and were developed by Drs. Ari Novick, Ph.D. and Tony Fiore, Ph.D., both licensed psychotherapists and anger management experts. Study Finds That Online Education Beats the Classroom
New York Times
Study Finds That Online Education Beats the Classroom
A recent 93-page report on online education, conducted by SRI International for the Department of Education, has a starchy academic title, but a most intriguing conclusion: “On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction.”
The report examined the comparative research on online versus traditional classroom teaching from 1996 to 2008. Some of it was in K-12 settings, but most of the comparative studies were done in colleges and adult continuing-education programs of various kinds, from medical training to the military.
Over the 12-year span, the report found 99 studies in which there were quantitative comparisons of online and classroom performance for the same courses. The analysis for the Department of Education found that, on average, students doing some or all of the course online would rank in the 59th percentile in tested performance, compared with the average classroom student scoring in the 50th percentile. That is a modest but statistically meaningful difference.
“The study’s major significance lies in demonstrating that online learning today is not just better than nothing — it actually tends to be better than conventional instruction,” said Barbara Means, the study’s lead author and an educational psychologist at SRI International.
This hardly means that we’ll be saying good-bye to classrooms. But the report does suggest that online education could be set to expand sharply over the next few years, as evidence mounts of its value.
Until fairly recently, online education amounted to little more than electronic versions of the old-line correspondence courses. That has really changed with arrival of Web-based video, instant messaging and collaboration tools.
The real promise of online education, experts say, is providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more “learning by doing,” which many students find more engaging and useful.
“We are at an inflection point in online education,” said Philip R. Regier, the dean of Arizona State University’s Online and Extended Campus program.
The biggest near-term growth, Mr. Regier predicts, will be in continuing education programs. Today, Arizona State has 5,000 students in its continuing education programs, both through in-person classes and online. In three to five years, he estimates, that number could triple, with nearly all the growth coming online.
But Mr. Regier also thinks online education will continue to make further inroads in transforming college campuses as well. Universities — and many K-12 schools — now widely use online learning management systems, like Blackboard or the open-source Moodle. But that is mostly for posting assignments, reading lists, and class schedules and hosting some Web discussion boards.
Mr. Regier sees things evolving fairly rapidly, accelerated by the increasing use of social networking technology. More and more, students will help and teach each other, he said. For example, it will be assumed that college students know the basics of calculus, and the classroom time will focus on applying the math to real-world problems — perhaps in exploring the physics of climate change or modeling trends in stock prices, he said.
“The technology will be used to create learning communities among students in new ways,” Mr. Regier said. “People are correct when they say online education will take things out the classroom. But they are wrong, I think, when they assume it will make learning an independent, personal activity. Learning has to occur in a community.”

3 Easy Tips to Reduce Stress. An Anger Management Technique
Top stress reducing activities one can find immediately benefit from would include:
Getting regular exercise. While this might seem so intuitive, it is often overlooked by so many people. Unless you have a medical condition that prohibits exercise or your doctor says “no”, getting exercise has almost instant stress relieving properties. My favorite kind of exercise is anything that is fun! Just make sure its 30 minutes or longer and cardiovascular.
The second tip is sleep. Sounds easy right? Not really. Lack of sleep causes irritability and a decrease tolerance to stressors. Most adults need about 7-8 hours a night.
Last tip is watching what you eat. Most Americans drink way to much caffeine for example. Caffeine is like adding fuel to the fire when we are trying to reduce stress. It mimics the stress response in the body and reduces our ability to tolerate normal situations. By watching our caffeine intake we can greatly reduce the physical and psychological symptoms of stress.

Can Anger Be Eliminated?
This is a common question asked by many people seeking help with their own anger management. Contrary to popular belief, anger is not a bad emotion. Anger can sometimes be a necessary emotion and one that sets us into action to avoid danger or perceived threat. If the emotion of anger could be eliminated we would be void of one of life’s most powerful and sometimes needed emotions.
The real issue isn’t the feeling of anger, but the behavior that follows. For many people, they wish they wouldn’t ever get angry because they simply don’t like the way the behave when they do get upset. Sadly, they often have a feeling of helplessness. The golden rule of anger management is that we all are in control of our own behaviors. Other people don’t “make” us feel angry or “make” us behave badly. Behavior is a choice, it’s not something that is forced upon us.
The next issue to address is “how” to behave differently. We often have clients that want to behave better when they get upset, they just simply don’t know how to. This is usually do to a lack of skills developed around learning how to better manage and control their anger. They lack coping skills in communication, stress management, expectation management, empathy, forgiveness and other key areas.
Learning these skills can greatly improve ones ability to handle one of life’s most difficult emotions, anger. Anger management classes teach these skills and help individuals better confront the emotion of anger and improve interpersonal relationships. Why wait to have anger ruin another important relationship? Get started today!

As the industry leading provider of online anger management classes, we get calls and emails regularly asking us how to best pick an online anger management class. For starters, not all anger management class programs are the same. Like anything on the internet, consumers must be aware that programs vary in quality, acceptance, and effectiveness. Distance learning programs also vary greatly in their sophistication. For example, an organization might refer to their program as “online” simply because they have a website when in fact their program is simply a book that you order or a PDF that is downloaded. This is not an online class, but rather a product purchased over the internet that must either be printed or shipped in printed form.
Here is a simple checklist of items to make sure of before starting an online anger management class
- How long has the agency been offering their course? What kind of training qualifies them to offer the course? Did they just launch a website, but have no history of actually offering or teaching anger management?
- What credentials or qualifications does the course provider have? I found one class that actually had a vidiographer as the owner. I found another that had no credentials at all. Consumer must be careful!
- Can a judge, probation officer or attorney contact the agency to verify credentials? Is there a qualified person that can accept phone calls and provide documentation?
- What curriculum is being used? Does it have any approvals? What is really being taught? Is there any substance to the course?
- Does the course include skills in empathy and emotional intelligence, forgiveness, stress management, assertive communication, expectation management, improving judgment and impulse control, and learning to respond instead of react?
- Is the course really “online” or is it just a bunch of downloads, printed materials that are mailed, or home made videos?
- Online means that everything is delivered online, with interaction with a qualified instructor.
- Do they have a refund policy if their program isn’t accepted? Distance learning programs are new, and not every judge in every court throughout the country is going to understand them.
- If something seems to good to be true, it probably isn’t. A quality program is going to cost more for a reason, because it’s legitimate.
Our Agency, Anger Class Online™ offers the highest quality online anger management classes available. We offer programs for a variety of client populations. Here is just a short list of the types of programs we offer.
Programs for court ordered, probation or legal requirement:

The Key to Success in Managing Your Anger
It usually boils down to one simple question, “what is the key to sucess in managing ones anger?”. While the answer to this question is complex, I would like to explore a few key concepts that can help anyone. First off, anger management is a skill that can be learned by attending a group class, an online or distance learning anger program, or through one/one coaching. Each format is uniquely different, therefore I recommend getting a consultation and anger management assessment before starting any program.
In our model, which is the Century Anger Management model of intervention, we focus on the “8 Tools of Anger Control”, and we view these as the key to success in our curriculum. By learning, practicing and mastering these skills one can expect to improve their own anger management and interpersonal relationships.
These skills include learning how to communicate assertively and refining listening skills. There is a common myth about what constitutes assertiveness and we like to level the playing field by teaching its true definition and use. The second skills in empathy and emotional intelligence. With this, we are better able to connect with others on an emotional level, which in turn creates connectivity between people. The third skill is learning to respond instead of react. Once one masters the ability to not be impulsive, better decisions can be made. The fourth skill is expectation management. Learning to master how to accurately evaluate situations and people is key to staying calm. Next is gaining skills in stress management. An obvious intervention aimed at learning how to stay calm. The sixth key skill is forgiveness. Learning to forgive has many layers and there are also some myths here that are uncovered in our approach. The seventh skill in learning how to take time outs and cool down appropriate as well as learning how to “fight” the right way. Both you and the recipient will gain from this skill. And, last, gaining skills in optimism is key to staying flexible and less reactive, another key to anger management.

Empathy is a skill that can be learned in Anger Management
Almost daily I teach skills in empathy to my clients in either our anger management classes or in one/one anger management coaching sessions. Empathy is the ability to see another person's viewpoint from both a content standpoint and an emotional standpoint. Most people can understand the "content", but lack the abilitiy to fully understand how the other person is experiencing them or the situation from an emotional standpoint. This lack of understanding is part of what creates problems and often situations escalate as a result.
So, what can you do to increase skills in empathy? The first thing to understand is the empathy is a skill. You can improve it simply by understanding it and practicing it. Second, empathy is part of a larger umbrella to our overall ability to connect with others. My clients often want to improve communication skills first while not realizing that empathy and communication are interwoven together. One can not be an effective communicator without the ability to empathize with his/her audience. To have empathy, one must be able to identify the emotional experience of the other, to feel the others feeling and relate to that person in a way that lets them know they are connected and understood. Not just from the content, but the emotions they are experiencing. These skills can be learned in either an anger management class, anger management coaching or a well established online anger management course
While it may take time to develop empathy, it can be one of the most rewarding skills to develop. Persons with high levels of empathy tend to have closer and more intimate relationships, are sought after for support and leadership, and experience less stress.

How to Improve Your Anger Management
What many people do not recognize is that managing anger is a skill. While the emotion of anger is experienced throughout all humanity, the expression of the emotion varies greatly, depending on ones learned coping skills.
Without good coping skills, unbridled anger can become dangerous and devastating in relationships. Like any skill, it must first be taught, assimilated, then practiced many times. Then the skill should be monitored by a professional for guidance or suggestions. Learning to manage anger is like learning to play golf, you must first learn proper technique, then practice repetitively until mastered.
Skills might include improving communication, empathy, judgment and impulse control, expectations and stress management. These skills can be effectively learned by taking an anger class or online class, or through one/one anger management coaching by a trained professional. Anger management should be viewed as an educational intervention aimed at improving ones interpersonal skills.
Again, I use the word “skills” because that is what anger management is all about, skill enhancement. One will not master how to better control their anger response through magic. It happens with hard work and diligence at practicing the skills taught in a quality program.
Managing anger is also about ones own anger not the other persons. There is nothing you can do to improve someone else’s behavior. This type of training is all about self-improvement. The better you represent yourself to the ones around you, the better chance you have of the interaction being positive!

Anger Management Classes Can Help Road Rage
In the last year our referrals for road rage related anger management have sky rocketed. According to a recently released national survey, when a driver gets the finger, is cut off or tailgated, 50 percent of the victims respond with horn honking, yelling, cutting-off, and obscene gestures of their own. The survey, administered by Response Insurance, revealed that 34 percent of drivers say they honk their horn at the aggressor, 27 percent yell, 19 percent give the finger back, 17 percent flash their headlights, and 7 percent mimic the initial aggressive driving behavior. Two percent of drivers admit to trying to run the aggressor off the road.
What do all the these statistics mean if you fall into one of these categories? It might be time to get some help. Quality anger management classes which utilize a cognitive-behaviorally based approach tend to have good results for those seeking to improve their aggressive and hostile driving tactics. Aggressive driving behavior is usually a result of both poor judgment and impulse control. By learning skills in anger management, such as learning to respond instead of react, improving self-talk, becoming more optimistic, and managing expectations, one can expect to reduce their frequency of aggressive driving.
One quality choice for improving these skills is to consider our online anger management class, which can be taken from any location in the US or abroad with a computer and internet access.
The second option if you are local to southern California, is to enroll in either an anger management class or one/one anger management coaching.

How I Gained Skills in Anger Management
By Ari Novick, Ph.D.
The issue of credentials is an important one when seeking professional help. I often get asked this question by consumers, prospective clients, as well as the media when contacted about our programs, products and services. Anger management is a specialized field and requires additional training. It can be a stand alone certification process for some or a specialization for a licensed and trained psychotherapist.
As for my journey, after finishing my first post graduate degree in clinical psychology at Pepperdine University, I began the long and rigorous road of becoming a licensed and trained psychotherapist. This process took several years beyond completing my Masters degree working in a variety of internships and mental health placements until all the requirements were met to sit for two very difficult licensing exams. I had amazing supervisors and a sound academic and clinical foundation. I knew in addition to my general education as a psychotherapist, I needed specialized training and education in a niche.
In the process of all of this, I started by taking several workshops in the field of anger management, which was a topic of interest to me, from a prominent and competent psychotherapist who offered training in the field of anger management. This was an amazing start, to a much longer journey. I then began to take as many other workshops and trainings related to anger management and aggression that I could find all over the country, but I still yearned to learn more.
In little time, I realized anger management was an area of specialization that I wanted explore thoroughly and better understand. I continued in academia and entered a Ph.D. program at the California Graduate Institute (A Professional School in Psychology) and spend 4 more years of school broadening my understanding of clinical psychology. For two and a half years I focused all my efforts researching anger management and anger management inventions, and everything I could find that was published in the field. It took me a little over a year and a half of research until I had finally completed a full literature review on the topic of anger management that was accepted for use in my dissertation. In the final year of completing my Ph.D. degree I worked diligently to write a well focused dissertation in the field of anger management. This included an original pilot study, testing interventions and developing a methodology that could then be further expanded. It was a lot of work and took perhaps thousands of hours of research and writing. During this time I was blessed and fortunate enough to become friends with one of the greatest anger management mentors of all time, Raymond Novaco, Ph.D., who is a professor at UCI. Dr. Novaco was kind enough to help give guidance and support during this difficult process as well as necessary feedback. There are only a handful of groundbreaking researchers in the field of anger management, and I was lucky enough to gain insight and guidance from one of the best.
In 2006 my formal training was complete and I was now able to represent myself as a both a well trained psychotherapist, and also an expert in the field of anger management. With the use of my research and then the help of my friend and psychologist, Tony Fiore, Ph.D., we were able to co-write one of the most complete and professional anger management curiculums and training programs available. Our program has received numerous approvals and has been accepted for use throughout the county in probation departments, courts, businesses, religious organizations, governmental agencies and much more. Most recently we were asked to train 20 employees who will be providing anger management training in all 33 California state prisons. Our curriculum is currently used in 5 countries and is available in both English and Spanish.
I maintain a thriving private practice as a licensed psychotherapist and anger management provider. I also am the co-founder of Century Anger Management, a leading national provider of anger management certification. In 2006, I launched one of the most innovative online anger management courses available in the nation, and in 2007, I was asked to come on board as an adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

Anger and Love- What Do They Mean to You?
After teaching anger management classes for over 6 years I have learned that the use of the word "love" and the behavior of "anger" often accompany one another. Many of our anger management participants state that their anger has either destroyed a relationship that was very meaningful to them or it has eroded it to the point that they are fearful it will never return to normal.
Anger is a powerful emotion. It sends us into action and not always in the way we would like. Love is an emotion, but in many ways it is also a behavior. If one would like to show how much they love another, then their behavior is the best indicator of their intent vs. just the words "I love you". In our anger management classes we teach skills to help recognize faulty ways of communicating hostility, especially towards those we love and care about. Most people state that they can be so warm and friendly to those they hardly know and aggressive and hostile to those that mean the most to them.
Learning effective skills in anger management can help improve the way one expresses one of lives most meaningful emotions, love. Remember, if we treat love as a behavior and not just an emotion, then our actions will show how much we care. By behaving badly and then saying, " but I do care about you...." makes those words meaningless. By improving skills in anger management, students of these classes can expect to improve their interpersonal relationships and their lives.

Human Resources and Corporations Embrace Executive Coaching / Anger Managment for Employees
As the nation reaches almost unprecedented levels of stress, corporations are seeking ways to help employees cope with their own stress, fear and anger. Executive Coaching/Anger Management is both a cost savings to companies seeking to minimize the probability of an employee behaving inappropriately as well as an intervention used after an incident has occurred. This type of intervention teaches the employee, supervisor or executive specific skills for improving work place conduct which in turn improves morale and productivity.
Participants of Executive Coaching for Anger Management can expect to learn skills in assertive communication, conflict resolution, stress management, empathy, expectation management, improving self-talk, forgiveness, and improving ones judgment and impulse control.
These courses can be delivered in one of three ways, either through a one on one format, through the use of our highly comprehensive corporate online anger management classes specifically designed for corporations and H.R. managers or by having an on-site training provided to staff and corporate personal.

Anger Class Online Testimonial
The AJ Novick Group offers the industries most comprehensive and trusted online anger management programs in the nation. Every participant of our online courses has the unique opportunity to provide feedback on their experience of the course and offer ways for us to improve. As we receive these client feedback forms we continually make adjustments to classes which reflect our users experience and suggestions. We recently received the following testimonial which we wanted to share which we felt was reflective of our company and our programs:
“Dear Dr. Novick,
I just wanted to thank you for providing me with such a valuable course. I actually attended an anger management class group a few years ago and left with very little gain. This online anger management course has opened my eyes to a new way of thinking and behaving to others. I loved the fact that I actually had to understand the material and practice the tools in order to progress in the course. This made me know that I understood the concepts and that I could try to apply them in my every day life. I also wanted to thank you for taking the extra step in contacting the judge directly for my court case and providing him with a copy of your course manual, and other documentation to show how the program works. He was very impressed, as was my attorney and it made all the difference for me as I can now see my family again. I will continue to strive to practice the 8 tools of anger control and I so appreciate everything you have done. You have an amazing course that anyone could benefit from.
Sincerely,
Allan B. - Atlanta, GA”

Anger Management and Grieving
As a licensed psychotherapist with a clinical practice in addition to my work in anger management I have made a few observations about grieving and its relationship to anger. Case example: A recent client of mine had lost her father of cancer about 5 years ago. When he died she was pregnant with her first child. As a result of being pregnant, she did not want to grieve too deeply for her father for fear that it might adversely effect the baby. She thought that all the sadness and hurt might cause complications to her unborn child and as a result, she did not properly grieve his death.
As the years went on, she found herself having an increasing worse temper and lowered frustration tolerance. Her once even keel, was easily thrown off course by even trial conflicts in life. She found herself not knowing why she had such a short fuse and why such small occurences in life could cause so much irritation. Rather than simply treating the symptoms of her anger, we actually started talking more about the loss of her father and how she lacked grieving his death. As the crying started, she went on to say that she had never actually cried and never really got a chance to talk about it. For several sessions of psychotherapy we have been working on the role of grieving in relationship to improving her anger response.
This brings up a very important point for all who seek help for anger management. Sometimes the anger has a historical or psychological cause and traditional anger management may not be the right course of action to take as a first line intervention. Anger management providers who are not trained or licensed as psychotherapists need to refer cases such as these to trained clinicians to evaluate the client and determine the etiology of the symptoms rather than simply teach anger management skills. While the anger management may be helpful, it may not resolve the underlying issue, as in the case example above, grieving. It is not to say that all underlying issues need to be resolved in order for anger management to be effective, but in some cases, they need or should be explored first. Anger management is an educational intervention aimed at teaching skills in a variety of areas to improve interpersonal relationships. It is NOT a catch all intervention to help every client who comes in to talk about why they are angry. Consumers to anger management need to also consider the causes of their anger and become educated between the differences between anger management and psychotherapy.
