Online Anger Management Classes: Fact vs. Fiction

The AJ Novick Group is one of the leading providers of anger management in the country. They are also the co-founder of Century Anger Management, which is arguably the second largest anger management certification training provider in the nation. The AJ Novick Group launched Anger Class Online in 2006 to meet the demand for clients who are unable to attend traditional classes due to a disability, inflexible work schedule, or other life commitments that prevent the participation in a live program. The classes were also designed to help consumers find a quality program in areas throughout the United States that may have limited access to anger management services.

Distance learning education is somewhat new. Many people do not fully understand it, and it will likely take some time for all judges, legal personnel, probation departments, HR managers, and the consuming public to grasp how important this new learning environment can be to increasing skills in a particular discipline, such as anger management. The New York Times recently published an article explaining how a recent study showed that distance learning has actually exceeded classroom learning. This is no surprise, as major universities, such as UCLA, Stanford and Harvard all offer distance learning courses.

While we can not speak for every online anger management class available on the Internet, I would like to provide a frequently asked questions (FAQ) to explain some of the important points to note regarding our world class online anger management classes available through Anger Class Online™

1. How long does it take to complete your program online?
Answer: The shortest class we offer is an 8 hour course. It can not be completed in less than 8 hours no matter what. The pages are timed for the average reading speed of 150 word per minute. Our longest standard class is 26 hours. It will also take 26 hours to complete. It can not be completed any faster.

2. Can your office be contacted and is it possible to visit in person?
Answer: Of course. We offer both live and online classes. Our live anger management programs are court approved and offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week at 6pm. Our corporate office is located at 333 Third Street, Suite 4, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Our office number is (949) 715-2694

3. What is the cost of your online program vs. your live program.
Answer: The shortest lengh class we provide is $195.00 and available through Anger Class Online. We believe this is a fair and reasonable fee for the type and quality program we offer. Our live classes are $35 per class session and we recommend 8-10 sessions. We have seen classes offered online for very little money and they seem too good to be true. The reality is, they probably are to good to be true. Consumers should carefully scrutinize these programs.

4. Does your office have regular office hours and customer service?
Answer: We have 1 full time office manager, 3 contract employees, with a total staff of 5. Either our office manager or Dr. Novick can be reached anytime M-F 9am-6pm each day and all calls that are not answered personally are usually returned within a few hours.

5. Are your online Classes court approved?
Answer: There is a big difference between court acceptance and court approval. Please read our website for more information using the link above. In short, our online anger management classes have been accepted by almost every state in the U.S. This is impart due to our curriculum being provided to courts, judges and probation officers when they request it as well as our ability to show a participants class participation through our online log. Approvals are made on a case by case basis and most state court judges have allowed our participants to take our online anger management classes when the request has been made.

7. Who utilizes your online anger management classes?
Answer: Our courses are commonly used and accepted by courts, probation departments, HR managers, EAP providers, and for personal growth. All of our contact information is available on our website and certificate of completion. Judges, attorneys and other legal officals are well aware of who we are, and the quality programs we offer.

8. Can your program be trusted?
Answer: Customer loyalty and trust is most important to us. Our parent company, AJ Novick Group, Inc is a professional corporation and has been in operation since 2003 and our online courses have been available since 2006. All of our programs are fully guaranteed. While it is rare when our programs are not accepted, in the event that there is an issue, we offer a full refund on the class. Our programs have numerous continuing education approvals and were developed by Drs. Ari Novick, Ph.D. and Tony Fiore, Ph.D., both licensed psychotherapists and anger management experts. Study Finds That Online Education Beats the Classroom

New York Times

Study Finds That Online Education Beats the Classroom

By Steve Lohr

A recent 93-page report on online education, conducted by SRI International for the Department of Education, has a starchy academic title, but a most intriguing conclusion: “On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction.”

Noah Berger for The New York Times Tyler Kennedy, 9, searches the Web at home in California.

The report examined the comparative research on online versus traditional classroom teaching from 1996 to 2008. Some of it was in K-12 settings, but most of the comparative studies were done in colleges and adult continuing-education programs of various kinds, from medical training to the military.

Over the 12-year span, the report found 99 studies in which there were quantitative comparisons of online and classroom performance for the same courses. The analysis for the Department of Education found that, on average, students doing some or all of the course online would rank in the 59th percentile in tested performance, compared with the average classroom student scoring in the 50th percentile. That is a modest but statistically meaningful difference.

“The study’s major significance lies in demonstrating that online learning today is not just better than nothing — it actually tends to be better than conventional instruction,” said Barbara Means, the study’s lead author and an educational psychologist at SRI International.

This hardly means that we’ll be saying good-bye to classrooms. But the report does suggest that online education could be set to expand sharply over the next few years, as evidence mounts of its value.

Until fairly recently, online education amounted to little more than electronic versions of the old-line correspondence courses. That has really changed with arrival of Web-based video, instant messaging and collaboration tools.

The real promise of online education, experts say, is providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms. That enables more “learning by doing,” which many students find more engaging and useful.

“We are at an inflection point in online education,” said Philip R. Regier, the dean of Arizona State University’s Online and Extended Campus program.

The biggest near-term growth, Mr. Regier predicts, will be in continuing education programs. Today, Arizona State has 5,000 students in its continuing education programs, both through in-person classes and online. In three to five years, he estimates, that number could triple, with nearly all the growth coming online.

But Mr. Regier also thinks online education will continue to make further inroads in transforming college campuses as well. Universities — and many K-12 schools — now widely use online learning management systems, like Blackboard or the open-source Moodle. But that is mostly for posting assignments, reading lists, and class schedules and hosting some Web discussion boards.

Mr. Regier sees things evolving fairly rapidly, accelerated by the increasing use of social networking technology. More and more, students will help and teach each other, he said. For example, it will be assumed that college students know the basics of calculus, and the classroom time will focus on applying the math to real-world problems — perhaps in exploring the physics of climate change or modeling trends in stock prices, he said.

“The technology will be used to create learning communities among students in new ways,” Mr. Regier said. “People are correct when they say online education will take things out the classroom. But they are wrong, I think, when they assume it will make learning an independent, personal activity. Learning has to occur in a community.”

3 Easy Tips to Reduce Stress. An Anger Management Technique

Top stress reducing activities one can find immediately benefit from would include:

Getting regular exercise. While this might seem so intuitive, it is often overlooked by so many people. Unless you have a medical condition that prohibits exercise or your doctor says “no”, getting exercise has almost instant stress relieving properties. My favorite kind of exercise is anything that is fun! Just make sure its 30 minutes or longer and cardiovascular.

The second tip is sleep. Sounds easy right? Not really. Lack of sleep causes irritability and a decrease tolerance to stressors. Most adults need about 7-8 hours a night.

Last tip is watching what you eat. Most Americans drink way to much caffeine for example. Caffeine is like adding fuel to the fire when we are trying to reduce stress. It mimics the stress response in the body and reduces our ability to tolerate normal situations. By watching our caffeine intake we can greatly reduce the physical and psychological symptoms of stress.
